Saturday 18th February consisted of an early morning 9 mile run in the rain followed by half an hour on mapmyrun.com plotting my 19/20 mile Sunday morning run which would finish at Pats, quick shower then off to the Brighton game. At a 21st birthday party on Saturday night, I drank a bottle of water and 2 bottles of J2O (life and soul of the party, not!).
My alarm was set for 7am so I could be out running for about 9am, plenty of time to do the run and get to Pats before Andy picked us up. I awoke with a rumbling in the stomach at around 4.30am and thought “this isn’t right”! I couldn’t get back to sleep so just dozed until it was nearly time for the alarm to go off, but before it did my body decided it had better get up! At this point my ‘run’ started early, to the bathroom! 20 minutes later I was back in bed thinking I could still get out, but do a 15/16 miler instead. All that went out the window when I woke up and it was nearly 10am! What made it even worse was that it was a nice sunny morning, quite cold, but a lovely morning for a run. I finally decided I shouldn’t risk going out this morning as, as much as I admire Paula Radcliffe as a runner, I didn’t want to emulate her by squatting at the side of the road (Athens 2004)!
I gave some more flyers and posters out at the match to people who said they would promote it for us and told the lads who sit near me that it might be best if I sit on the end of the row today! After speaking to Dom late Sunday evening, I decided not to rush back Monday morning and make sure I was feeling 100% better because as in Dom’s words “it’s better to have 2 days off now rather than 2 weeks nearer the time of the run” Cheers Dom!
I’m on half term this week so can re-schedule my long run for one day later in the week so shouldn’t miss too much in the end because I don’t think I can get a 20 miler in this coming Sunday, I think I’m busy, can’t remember what, but I think its quite important!
Earle JFT96 YNWA!
